RAC_Gump over at says he read on another forum that this only affects the Red Baron Arcade servers.  But who knows?  The Red Baron 3D metaservers have been running for ten years.  But no worries - if the metaservers go down, we always have our private metaservers.

This follows in the wake of the recent merging of Vivendi/Blizzard with Activision, which owned the remnants of Sierra.  It looks like Vivendi originally only wanted to acquire Activision, but got Sierra as a sort of unwanted red-haired stepchild.  Out of all the game studios and games in development, only three were selected to continue development.  All other games by small developers have been canned.  And the rights to many game titles remains unclear.

One thing remains clear: Activision/Blizzard/Vivendi/Universal/etc/etc/etc obviously cares first and foremost about profits, gaming community and independent game developers be damned.
